Frankfurt Airport strike extended until Friday

The strike organised by the GdF, a union representing airport ground controllers at the Frankfurt International Airport, will continue until Friday, February 24th at 11:00 pm (local time). Consequently, widespread flight disruptions are expected in coming days. Yesterday, hundreds of flights have been cancelled due to this action. Flight delays and cancellations are likely to continue after the end of the strike until backlogs are cleared.

Some 200 workers members of the GdF union are striking, asking for an increase of wages. The strike started on Monday, February 20th and was expected to end Wednesday, February 22nd at 04:00 am (local time). Lufthansa and other airlines operating in Frankfurt airport have been forced to cancel hundreds of flights. With 1,300 flights operated daily, Frankfurt International Airport is the largest airport in Germany and one of the busiest in Europe.

People travelling in and out of Frankfurt Airport are advised to check their flight status before heading to the airport.
